How Could You Be So Cruel?

Yesterday evening, raking through some old four track tapes retrieved from my parents’ attic over Christmas, looking for one or two missing Planet Sunflower songs which must surely be in this shoebox somewhere. I found the saddest song I ever wrote. Thought it was lost. Christ. Happy Valentine’s Day.

The Long Vacation – How Could You Be So Cruel?

This seems familiar- could I have heard this one before? Perhaps in a one-off cassingle? It's beautiful- I love the juxtapostion of dreamy guitar and vitriol guitar.

I don't remember playing it to anyone before. Think maybe either you or D. heard it half finished at home...

It is a bit of an odd Cocteau Twins / JAMC mix, isn't it?

Holy shit, Chris. If I didn't know you, my only reaction would be that it's an incredible song; but, sheesh...anyone know what the emoticon for brotherly hugs looks like?

When did you record it?

Um...not sure what's happened to my OpenID...traumatised by the song, perhaps.

Chris.

It would have been late 1999, when I was still down in Codsall.

I am a bit scared of it, to be honest.

Hmmm- some time after "Desire's A Terrible Thing", then. Perhaps you gave it an airing at Christmas before one of our Danery trips. It reminds me a little of "Numb and Sore", which is my favourite ever Long Vacation song.
